Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme, which initially commenced as a pilot scheme, has now been formally incorporated within the Immigration Rules. The requirements for the grant of further leave to remain and indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom under this category have been clarified.
Work Permit
Overseas Nationals may require permission to work in the United Kingdom. It is a criminal offence for a company to employ an individual who does not have the right to work in the United Kingdom. A UK based employer may employ an Overseas National under the Work Permit Scheme so long as they meet the required education and skills criteria. From the 1st April 2003, Work Permits (UK) introduced a charge for the consideration of Work Permit Applications for Business and Commercial, Training & Work Experience, Sportspeople and Entertainers, Student Internships and GATS Work. The charge applies for the consideration of: initial Work Permit Applications:
